Having been a carer with Rest Assured We Care for 5 years, I can guarantee that the carers working for this agency really DO CARE. That includes the office staff too. They are always ready to listen and help where they ca, even if you are having a bad day and just need to grumble! Just their presence at the end of the phone helps enormously!
Caring is not an easy job – do not be under any illusions, It is however, very rewarding and the clients are grateful for your assistance, even if they are not able to tell you themselves. Remember, it cannot be easy for them having to depend on someone, sometimes for everything, especially the personal care.
It is important for both carers and clients to live and work harmoniously with each other and the Agency really tries to ensure that the compatibility combination works, to ensure happiness and well being for all concerned.
You will have challenging days, just like any other job. Your own life will be put on hold and your client’s life and routine will often overtake and be al encompassing, however, if you take regular breaks (eg long weekends or a month) to revitalise those batteries, “get away from it all” and remind yourself you have a life of your own, you will be able to cope better. During this time your client will also be able to have a break from you and during this time often clients’ appreciate how fluidly carers work to achieve continuity and lessen anxiety.
Caring can be a long term career choice, and if you choose you could study for an NVQ qualification through the Agency which would allow you to have a job, accommodation and a qualification all in one.
